Most of the rent reforms that were recently enacted don’t apply to landlords of 1-4 families. However, there was a provision saying that the “Tenant Blacklist” has been banned. Now, this ban really makes no sense because bad tenants should be highlighted. But, there is an overall question if the new law really has any teeth.

I was at Home Depot yesterday and I saw this crazy product. It is a tile backsplash that has a sticky back and can be removed. It is temporary. But, the cost was too high. Why wouldn’t a landlord just buy classic white subway tile and have someone install it? It is cheaper and permanent. Maybe this is a solution for a tenant but even then, white subway tile is cheaper. Also, I would not use highly specific tile for a rental. I had these tenants destroy part of a tile backsplash and I could not find the tile anywhere. So, if you want to do a backsplash, do it in a material that you can easily replace. The fact that you have a backsplash by itself is enough.
