Removing Department of Buildings Boiler Violations

We just refinanced our property. I knew we had four outstanding boiler violations but I had to remove them within 90 days of closing as a condition of the loan. Three violations were for failing to get the boiler inspected in 1994, 1995 and 2006. Those violations were pretty easy to get dismissed. I just paid $500 per violation and they were erased. Then, there was a violation that for the same failure to get the boiler inspected in 2010. But, in fact, it was issued in error. I got that cleared up today. I mailed in the proof of inspection and payment(a $30 fee) a couple of months ago. However, DOB said I had to send a copy of the FRONT and BACK of the check to them. C’mon. So, since there were torrential downpours today, I figured no one would be at DOB. I was right. I was in there for 45 minutes and got the violation removed. So, I  should get money released from escrow in two weeks. Moral of the story is if you want to clear up a pretty straightforward violation, it is easier to go down to DOB and do it yourself. Have all your paperwork ready and it should be easy.

Thermostats

Ok, real pain in the rear. The thermostat at my building needs to be adjusted. The building is in Bed-Stuy. I live in Harlem. Don't want to travel for two hours for a five minute job. Anyone use a Nest or a remote controlled thermostat? I just went to the Lowe's site and looked some up. When you punch in your zip code, for Honeywell products, the site tells you what rebates you can get. Nice. I think I will get one in the next two weeks.
